The Lodge is located minutes from the famous Del Mar Racetrack, as well as the sites of La Jolla such as the Stephen Birch Aquarium and Museum, La Jolla Museum of Contemporary Art, La Jolla Playhouse, and shopping in the boutiques and galleries of Prospect and Girard Streets. In San Diego, big-city attractions such as world-renowned Sea World in San Diego, the San Diego Zoo, Museum of Contemporary Art, Gaslamp District, Old Town and Balboa Park are a mere 20-minute drive away.

Del Mar Racetrack

Just a solid chip shot from the Pacific Ocean, the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club opened its gates back in 1937. The man at the turnstile collecting tickets that day was none other than the original laid-back Californian himself, Bing Crosby. Bing and a bunch of his Hollywood buddies hatched this marvelous idea for a horse palace by the ocean where you could play all day, party all night and leave the cares of the world behind. That spirit remains today.

Local Shopping

La Jolla is world-renowned for its shopping district, a unique treasure trove of original gift buying. You will find it all here. The streets are lined with small specialty shops, boutiques, antique emporiums and art galleries standing next to national chains and department stores. Neighborhood style hardware and drug stores, gourmet shops and grocery and sundries stores are conveniently located in the Village.

La Jolla, California Welcomes Its Visitors with a Wide Variety of Activities

Torrey Pines State Reserve
No visit to La Jolla is complete without a visit to Torrey Pines State Reserve, located on the cliffs between northern La Jolla and Del Mar, California. As a result of ongoing conservation efforts, the 2,000 acres that embody the reserve remain one of the wildest stretches of land on the Southern California coast. The reserve is the home of the rare and endangered Torrey Pines tree. Eight miles of hiking trails with jaw-dropping ocean views, a visitor center, a lagoon filled with migrating sea birds, and an expansive beach shadowed by massive golden cliffs make this a favorite destination for travelers from around the world. Hikes range from easy to strenuous, but have one thing in common—spectacular views of dramatic cliffs hugging the blue Pacific Ocean.
Black’s Beach
Whether you are into surfing the waves, or just watching others do so, a visit to Black’s Beach is a unique experience for the visitor to La Jolla.  Also known as Torrey Pines City Beach, it is located south of Torrey Pines State Reserve and is accessible by a moderately difficult 20-30 minute hike from Torrey Pines Glider Port. The beach boasts enormous and powerful waves, which are created due to the offshore La Jolla underwater canyons that go from shallow to deep. This makes it a favorite among Southern California surfers. Because of its relative inaccessibility, it is never over-crowded--and the ocean views upon descending the trail are spectacular. Be advised that certain portions of the beach are clothing-optional; signs along the way will designate whether nudity is allowed.
Torrey Pines Glider Port
If soaring above the birds, through rugged canyons, and high above La Jolla’s spectacular coastline is not on your bucket list---it should be.  The Torrey Pines Glider Port offers tandem paragliding and hang gliding experiences that are guaranteed to become a highlight of your visit to La Jolla. Certified professional tandem pilots are with you every step of the way on the 20-25 minute flight. No prior experience is necessary and there is no age or weight limit (the Glider Port reports that since it began operation, its youngest passenger was 13 months and the oldest, 98 years!)

La Jolla “Insider’s Scoop” Restaurant Guide

La Jolla Brew House
Raise a glass of one of San Diego’s specialty beers at the La Jolla Brewhouse, a casual eatery located in the heart of downtown La Jolla on Fay Avenue. The pub is open 7-days a week and features a wide variety of craft and specialty beers. The craft brew scene has exploded in San Diego, which now features over 40 breweries. In fact, San Diego was recently cited as a “sunny heaven for suds lovers” by the New York Times. San Diego brews have also gained international recognition, earning more medals at the 2010 World Beer Cup than those from the traditional beer countries of England, Germany and Belgium combined. The La Jolla Brew House offers specialty Beer Dinners (four-courses with four-beers) in addition to its in-house menu.

Whisknladle
Located in the heart of La Jolla, the Whisknladle restaurant’s mission is to bring good food, good wine, and great people together. As such, it has become one of La Jolla’s most popular restaurants, taking pride in its use of seasonal and farm-to-table products. Whisknladle chefs are committed to taking the time to make most of their dishes from scratch. The restaurant has received glowing reviews from such national publications as Condé Nast Traveler and Food & Wine. The restaurant offers everything from Happy Hour tapas to supper club dinners to private dining, in addition to its regular lunch, dinner and weekend brunch menu.

Cody’s
Cody’s restaurant is located just steps away from Scripps Park and the world-famous La Jolla Cove (which was recently named one of the ten best U.S. beaches in 2013 by Tripadvisor.com). This family restaurant consistently wins accolades from San Diego visitors and residents alike for its breakfast and brunch menus. Diners can enjoy an eye-popping view on the ocean while savoring culinary delights such as Mahi Mahi fish tacos with cabbage, black beans, and lime or creamy corn and crab chowder in a bread bowl. Breakfast and brunch selections include Cody’s famous wild mushroom omelet and its popular Crab Benedict.
