Day 2: Explore Lima #WHS#

After breakfast, join our engaging resident guide to explore the city, starting at Casa Aliaga. Distinguished by its authentic period details and fine collection of antique furnishings, art and artifacts, this is the oldest inhabited residence in the Americas. It was built by one of Pizarro's captains and still occupied by his descendents after 500 years. At the highly regarded Larco Museum, you'll discover a superb collection of pre-Columbian artifacts, the perfect introduction to the Inca sites you'll explore in the coming days. This evening, we've arranged for you to dine overlooking Huaca Pucllana, a sacred pyramid of the 4th century. Meals B+D

Day 3: Fly to Cuzco + Travel into the Sacred Valley

This morning, you will be escorted to the airport for your included flight to Cuzco, the ancient capital of the once vast and mighty Inca Empire. Upon arrival, meet our Andean guide and descend into the Sacred Valley to visit Manos de la Comunidad, where you'll see llamas and alpacas and learn about ancient weaving techniques still practiced throughout the Peruvian highlands. Continue to the vibrant and colorful Urubamba market. End your day at the luxurious Tambo Del Inka in the heart of the scenic Sacred Valley. Meals B+L

Day 4: The Sacred Valley

After breakfast, today's sightseeing begins as you ascend to the monumental fortress of Ollantaytambo, Inca-built with enormous stones and so strategically positioned that it was successfully defended against the Spanish in 1537. In the shadow of the citadel, the timeless community of Ollantaytambo looks today much as it did centuries ago with its simple grid of cobblestone streets, perfectly constructed stone walls and ancient canals. Then sit down to a delightful farm-to-table lunch at Hacienda Huayoccari, a 17th-century estate that's been home to the Orihuela family for over 100 years. In the afternoon, enjoy our specially arranged pottery workshop in the studio of famed ceramicist Pablo Seminario. Meals B+L

Day 5: Discover the Lost City of the Inca #WHS#

A 2-day visit to Machu Picchu begins with a scenic rail journey through the Urubamba River Valley, a captivating region of snow-capped Andean peaks, quiet villages and terraced fields that have been cultivated since ancient times. On arrival in the town of Aguas Calientes, you'll board a coach for the 30-minute ride up the switchback mountain road that brings you to the entrance of Machu Picchu . Explore the fabled Lost City as our engaging guide expertly sheds light on the once-mighty Inca Empire and their extraordinary achievements. Descend to your luxury hotel by the Vilcanota River, and enjoy dinner and a restful overnight. Meals B+L+D

Day 6: Sunrise at Machu Picchu + Back to Cuzco

Arise early for your second visit to the citadel. With fewer people and the soft light of morning just breaking over the mountain peaks, this early-morning visit to Machu Picchu is one of the most memorable travel experiences you will ever have. On your return rail journey to Cuzco, you'll stop in Chincheros, a small community known for the skill of its weavers. Arriving in Cuzco, you'll be escorted to the luxurious Belmond Palacio Nazarenas, where oxygenated rooms promise comfort at the high elevation. Meals B+L

This morning's sightseeing begins in the hills outside of town where you'll explore the remarkable ruins of Sacsayhuaman. Built in the 1400's by the Inca Emperor Pachacútec, the massive limestone blocks of this ancient site were cut with such precision that they fit together without mortar like the interlocking pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. Back in town at the lively Cascaparo market, our in-the-know guide will offer insight into some of the age-old traditions that still endure here in the high Andes. Finish your sightseeing with a guided tour of the Cathedral, one of several Colonial-era landmarks that grace the Plaza de Armas. The rest of this day is free to enjoy as you wish. Meals B

After lunch back onboard the Aria, you'll have time to relax and engage with your fellow travelers and the ship's naturalists. Featured Destinations
Amazon Jungle (Peru)
The Peruvian Amazon borders Ecuador, Brazil, and Bolivia. The area is rich in biodiversity and has the second-largest portion of the Amazon.
Ucayali River
Scenic cruising.
Pacaya Samiria Reserve
Renowned for its biodiversity, the area could quite possibly be one of the oldest Pleistocene shelters of the South American continent. There is a proven existence of 965 species of wild plants and 59 of cultivated plants, 450 species of birds, 102 species of mammals, over 130 species of reptiles and amphibians and 250 different fish species, but studies and investigation are still far from being exhausted.

National Reserve Pacaya-Samiria is the natural habitat for lots of wild animals and trees, as well as exuberant aquatic life: more than 500 bird species, 102 mammalians, 240 reptiles, 58 amphibians, 256 fishes and 1024 wild and cultivated vegetal species. In the reserve many species are protected: black caiman (Melanosuchus niger), dugongo (Trichechus inunguis), water turtle (Podocnemis unifilis), spider ape (Ateles sp.), giant otter (Pteronura brasiliensis), pink dolphin (Inia geoffrensis) and grey dolphin (Sotalia fluviatilis).

It isn’t difficult to find, year after year, new species of fauna and flora; and still few scientist dedicated to mysterious and variegate world of insects that populate the Reserve.

Iquitos
Iquitos is located in Northeastern Peru on the Amazon river. Right at the crux, the city sits at the point where the Marañón River unites with the Ucayali River to form the mainstream of the Amazon. Founded in 1747 by Jesuit Jose Bahamonde, the city is now a blend of indigenous people and European and Chinese immigrants who populated the area in the mid-1800’s. Surrounded by greenery, the city resonates with the energy of the Amazon. Warm, exotic, romantic and seductive, Iquitos is a city with rustic charm and a unique culture.
Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu is a fortress city of the ancient Incas, in a high saddle between two peaks 50 miles NW of Cuzco, Peru. The extraordinary pre-Columbian ruin consists of five sq. miles of terraced stonework link by 3,000 steps; it was virtually intact when discovered by Hiram Bibghan in 1911.
Sacred Valley
The Urubamba valley is also named the Sacred Valley. It begins in the Urubamba's village and continues to Macchu Picchu.
Cuzco (Cusco)
The Cuzco (Cusco) region of Peru combines Inca legacy with Spanish colonial architecture in an atmosphere at once provincial and sublime. The chaotic marketplaces where campesinos barter grain or potatoes for multi-colored fabric belie the mute spirituality of the Lost Cities, where Inca stonework conveys order and balance. Such diversity enhances this inspiring nine-day adventure. The blue sky radiates with an intensity achieved only at high altitudes (the city of Cuzco lies 11,150 feet above sea level), while the landscape offers its unique pattern of exacting agricultural grids and tangled jungle masses.
Lima
Lima, "the City of the Kings," became the effective capital of the Viceroyalty of Peru, established 1560. Today, a visit to Lima may serve as a unique Peruvian experience that offers a glimpse into the Andean world, Spanish tradition and the country's modern aspect. Visit handsome old buildings and baroque churches that testify to the city's religious background and the Plaza de Armas, shared by the realms of the Catholic church, municipality and national government. The pre-Inca ruins of Pachacamac lie a short distance south of the city. Once a ceremonial site, Pachacamac has been the most important religious center of the Andean world since before the age of Christ. Stop and admire The Temple of the Sun and the Moon, Lima's outstanding museums, and Machu Picchu - a "Jewel in the Mist."
