30-minute private van transfer
3.5 hours/6 miles hiking with 600' elevation gain & loss
After breakfast, take a 30-minute transfer to Saint Remy de Provence, nestled at the foot of the Alpilles Mountains. Follow Van Gogh's footsteps through an aromatic landscape of wild herbs and sun-baked pine trees up towards the jagged ridge of the windswept Alpilles. Enjoy panoramic views from the summit and a gourmet Provencal picnic before completing the loop back to Saint Remy. After completing the hike, visit with a local producer of goat's cheese to tour the farm and have a taste of fresh cheese.

Day 3 Hike to Les Baux de Provence
3.5 hours/6 miles hiking with 600' elevation gain & loss
Start the day at Saint Remy's morning market with its bounty of fresh regional produce - perfect for today's picnic. From there, follow a path up a shaded valley laden with cedar and pines, back up to the crest of the Alpilles. From here, take an easy trail along the ridge, enjoying wide-sweeping views. Perched atop the ridge is the 1,000-year-old village of Les Baux de Provence - a few dozen stone homes huddled together high above the valley. Meander through its narrow, cobbled streets, then stop at a working olive mill for a visit and a tasting. In the evening, savor a group dinner in Saint Remy.
Accommodation: Hotel Gounod
(B, D)

Day 4 Walk in the Luberon
1-hour private van transfer
3 hours/7 miles hiking with 1,500' elevation gain & loss
After breakfast, transfer from Saint Remy to Bonnieux, a village nestled between the two Luberon Mountains that took center-stage in Peter Mayle's best-selling memoir, A Year in Provence. Head out for a long gradual climb up the northern slope of the Luberon, through a forest of white oak and shrub. At the ridge, take in magnificent views across the valley, and have a Provencal picnic. Walk to the medieval village of Lacoste, crowned by the ruins of the Marquis de Sade's castle. Visit a family farm to sample traditional Provencal fare (weather permitting). Continue to the lofty medieval village of Gordes, its golden-stone homes rising in vertiginous circles above the Calavon valley. Here you will spend the next two nights.
Accommodation: Mas des Romarins
(B, L, D)

Day 5 Journey from Roussillon to Senanque Abbey

Today begins with a transfer to Roussillon. The village is built at the top of an ochre cliff face and offers a perfect blend of colors with its stones, roofs and facades mirroring the red tones of the neighboring landscape. Head out along thyme-laden hills toward Senanque Abbey, a collection of 850-year-old Romanesque structures hidden among lavender fields. Enjoy a private guided tour, then hike up for aerial views before returning to Gordes. Tonight, you can choose from one of the many restaurants in town.

Featured Destinations
Avignon
Visitors to Avignon won't want to leave, and the town is too interesting to leave. Avignon is ancient, full of history, life, youth, art, music and activity. Just to "see" the town itself, a visitor could wander the narrow streets inside the fortified walls for days without tiring of them.
Saint-Rémy-de-Provence

In this village in the heart of Provence, you’ll find all the charm of a typically Provencal way of life. You’ll soon be strolling along the boulevards under the shade of century-old plane trees. Wander around the narrow little streets, discovering squares where fountains play, and the attractive boutiques and art galleries that make the town’s historic centre so lively. Sit outside at one of the many cafes and restaurants, enjoying their welcome while you refresh yourself with a drink or try the country cooking based on local products. You’ll find a warm, friendly welcome in this charming little town of St. Remy, especially on market days and at the many celebrations and festivals throughout the year.

Gordes
Gordes is a very beautiful old village, in the heart of Provence, perched on the southern edge of high Plateau de Vaucluse. The stone buildings built in tight against the base of the cliffs and those perched on the rocks above, including the 12th-century castle, are made of beige stone that glows orange in the morning sun. The view from the village is a southern panorama out across fields and forest and small perched villages to the Montagne du Lubéron. Behind the village, small roads lead into the rocks and valleys and forests of the Plateau de Vaucluse, with the picturesque Abbaye de Sénanque nearby. See the beautiful village, the amazing views, and the lovely, rocky and forested contryside. Gordes is also a popular summer residence for artists, media, and film people from Paris. Victor Vasarely, who lives in a village of bories, has a Didactic Museum here as an extension to the Vasarely Foundation in Aix-en-Provence.
Vaison la Romaine
Cassis
Cassis, an old Provencal fishing port, is a popular summer resort that has drawn many famous painters to its sunny bay. Famous for its high white cliffs, Cassis lies at the foot of Europe's highest cliff, Cape Canaille (405m, 1352ft). Walk along the Promenade des Lombards and enjoy the small beaches dominated by a 14th century castle, shop in the boutiques or relax in the cafes.
