Ruby Princess Review

May

Pros: Fun ports, Clean Ship, Friendly & Caring Staff

Cons:

Recommended: Yes

Our family of 8 enjoyed this 11-day cruise round trip from San Francisco. The service was great and the staff was most attentive to our two young granddaughters. We passed a Disney ship, and I wondered what that would be like. Someone told me the service towards children was much better on Princess. I had to agree that our little granddaughters were treated so very well. We picked out excursions that were perfect for them, and had a blast. Each port also had a park, so we made a point of walking to one.

Feeling spoiled

February

Pros: Top notch service

Cons: Rough seas

Recommended: Yes

Wow! Our cruise on the Ruby was above board on everything! Customer service was a TEN! It was obvious that management expected and gave excellent service to everyone. We brought our three year old grandson and he attended the Kids Club. He had so much fun that he would beg to go back. These ladies that took care of our children were obviously doing something right when a child can’t wait to return to their care. We came home thoroughly spoiled from a very grand cruise.

First Cruise So nothing to compare to

March

Pros: Ship was clean, food and drinks were great, staff was really good.

Cons: Entertainment was at best so-so. Entertainment for the most part never changed. and was not high level.

Recommended: Yes

Some amenities were terribly understaffed. Help desk, Cones and Coffee always had a line and not enough staff to fully man their station. They only had two flavors of soft ice cream (basically a very slow Dairy Queen).

Panama Canal Cruise

February

Pros: Our room steward (Wendell) was wonderful!

Cons: Did not like the motion light in the cabin… want to turn it on and off as needed.

Recommended: Yes

Drinks are better at the bars inside … not poolside. Lots of pool chairs with towels, but no bodies laying in them… makes for a difficult time on sea days.

What A wonderful experience

February

Pros: Great selection of everything

Cons: Can't think of any.

Recommended: Yes

Right out of port the experience began. The food was wonderful and staff was excellent. The entire staff was attentive and wanted our vacation to be our best ever. Everyday we found a new place to have lunch or a cold beverage and the evening meals were as varied with every kind of food you wanted. Our cabin exceeded our expectations and the attendant was always available whenever needed. A great ship, a wonderful layout of shops, restaurants and bars and the friendliest crew on the ocean.

Wonderful cruise

February

Pros: EXtremely clean, all personnel very friendly, food was great, entertainment wonderful

Cons: Smoking section should NOT be on promenade deck where everyone is walking for their health. Move it somewhere else so that we don't have to walk through the smoke haze.

Recommended: Yes

I've only been on one other cruise line and I the comparison was huge. Princess just does everything perfectly and the other nameless cruise line not so much.

Panama Canal Cruise

December

Pros: Lots & very educational

Cons: Hardly any

Recommended: Yes

Very educational cruise, because of the lectures provided by Chris, a representative of the cruise entertainment/future cruise departments. Enjoyed all of his talks about the countries and ports we visited. The Panama Canal itself was amazing and an engineering feat unlike any other. It was definitely worth getting up very early and standing in the rain to see the whole process. The tours in the various ports were also interesting and the people friendly & helpful. The Princess staff & crew were great, too, as always. Everyone is friendly, efficient, and professional.

Ruby Princess to Alaska

May

Pros: Love sailing in an out of San Francisco. Embarkation and disembarkation were very organized. I’m beginning to really enjoy the Medallion Class.

Cons: Cabins need to be upgraded. Need to have one line only for dropping off luggage and going through registration, not two lines.

Crew is very friendly and helpful. Have sailed to Prince Rupert twice. Would like to visit Victoria and Vancouver again.

Pros: Short travel distance to port, affordable, good excursions, excellent dining and entertainment, wonderful staff

Cons: Public health protocol following a norovirus outbreak caused some delays

fantastic cruise

August

Pros: First and foremost, the crew was amazing. Perfect service and the kitchen staff are rock stars! Food surpassed my expectations. Some of the best meal service on any cruise.

Cons: only 10 days and they did not wake us for the Northern Lights after indicating they would.

August

Pros: Great staff, great service for the most part

Cons: Ship feels old, food (especially buffets) average at best with little to no variation

Good cruise

January

Pros: Staff and crew were exceptional as usual, the food was extremely delicious.

Cons: The only complaint could be the demands that Hawaii insisted on for sailing there.

Recommended: Yes

I'm sure everyone including staff and crew are very uncomfortable about having to mask all the time, it is extremely annoying, however necessary. As usual there were many activities for passengers to enjoy, my only problem is being able to get to morning games and get enough sleep.

Cons: Food quality needs attention—especially baked items

So fun to be cruising again after 2 disappointing Covid cancellations last year. Felt very safe and secure thanks to Princess’s obvious attention to health and safety. The warm Mexican weather was a delightful contrast to bone-chilling, wet December days in San Francisco, our departure city.

Our Ruby Princess Thanksgiving Cruise

November

Pros: Overall the cruise was quite enjoyable, no hitches of snafus.

Cons: Can’t think of any

Recommended: Yes

When we signed up for this cruise the new Medallion app seemed to still be under development. The app:crashed repeatedly, making it difficult to plan for the cruise. Once we were on the ship, the Medallion and the app worked well. Having the stateroom unlock as we approached was a nice convenience. Finding our cruise mates was easy with the Medallion. I didn’t rate Entertainment and Activities below because I didn’t participate in any of those features.

Ruby Princess

November

Pros: Staff was excellent

Cons: Medallion useless if no i-phone or i-pad available

Recommended: No

Much prefer the card usage to enter stateroom. It fits in your shirt pocket or wallet rather than banging around on your body or having to buy a wrist band or whatever else Princess was trying to sell. Inputting data to the system was almost impossible and took us hours with system crashes and and scan functions which didn't work. I never was able to scan my passport into the system. When all was said and done all I used the medallion for was to enter the stateroom and for the one purchase I made. The card key would have been sufficient.

Excellent service

July

Pros: They made EVERYTHING easy

Cons: At times had trouble eating because of my gluten allergy

Recommended: No

There's a lot to say about the Ruby... -I traveled with my handicap mother and they treated her like a queen. They assisted me with every need she had. -They were so helpful - had itineraries for the day, assisted in checking in at the airport, assisted with anything and everything. - My one suggestion would be to have the food labeled gluten free. I had to ask a lot of questions about the food - the only thing that was labeled was the deserts.

June

Pros: Spectacular views from our balcony great ports of call

Cons: See comments

Recommended: Yes

Staff was for the most part friendly, Food was good, ship is very dated in fact maintenance had to be performed in our children’s room next to ours they did upgrade the kids to a mini suite and told us since we wanted to be next to them they would try to get us moved so we could all be together, but the staff never followed thru with keeping our family together. Elevators need to be programmed to accommodate the crowds demand. There was a good variety of food but not anytime, hours vary. Entertainment was mostly comedy which was good we just expected more. The coffee at the coffee bar of which we drink mostly white mochas tasted like water and foam every time we tried it. It was constantly bad. I will go on another cruise because of the spectacular views and the different ports of call were very nice. It will most likely be on a different ship so I can truly rate the experience.

Cons: I would have enjoyed direction for a self guided walking tour at our stops vs have to pay for every tour.

Pros: Elevators worked well, stateroom was a good size.

Cons: Sewage smell, menu has changed from before.

Recommended: No

March

Pros: Overall, good cruise

Cons:

I gave the ports a 4-star because due to high winds and rough seas we were unable to port in Monterey, the port I most wanted to venture into. Pros: Fun entertainment and shore excursions.

Cons: Missed out on Monterrey due to weather.

Recommended: No

We had an enjoyable cruise and went on fun excursions. We missed out on seeing Monterrey due to bad weather and choppy seas. But had an extra day in San Diego so that made up for it. Enjoyed our anniversary dinner in the Michelangelo Dining room. The waiters gave us a cake treat and sang happy anniversary to us. It was a fun evening I thought the staff was going to put a happy anniversary sign and balloons on our stateroom door like they did for other passengers but they didn’t. It was a fun trip Overall.

Unexpected but Great!

March

Pros: Friendliness of all the staff!

Cons: Too warm in the dining room

Recommended: Yes

My wife and I expected nothing special on a 5 day cruise, but boy! Were we surprised! And in a good way! Everywhere we went, every venue, every event, the staff was warm and friendly, so passionate and so caring! We are long time Royal Caribbean cruisers, (currently Diamond Plus), but it is important to note that we have now switched our loyalty to Princess. Why? That's easy! Princess cares! All of their passengers are treated so warmly, so respectfully. They go about their jobs with passion and energy. Unlike our last 3 Royal cruises where my wife and I agreed, they were just going through the motions. It was a sheer joy to be with this company and their staff!

Outstanding cruise

June

Pros: Balcony rooms are well designed for storage and hanging clothes

Cons: Elevators didn’t stay open long enough and the up and down indicator for up and down are not well placed and you can’t hear the ding when it arrives on your floor. The signs for ship locations are not plentiful and we were constantly getting lost and having to ask staff for directions.

Recommended: Yes

Princess is an outstanding company they do things right and are well organized. The first day of breakfast on the ship I was not impressed with the food, however, they managed to get it together the rest of the cruise. The formal dinners were excellent and they said it was formal I went to the trouble to bring a suite andadded weight to my suitcase. I was very disappointed they didn’t enforce the formal dress code they allowed people in dressed in shorts and not the required formal attire as indicated in the princess requirements for formal attire. The excursions were excellent the people running them on land were always on time and made you welcome!! Princess cruise management is excellent and very well customer oriented. The best at what they do. Internet on ship was available and if you can live without talking on the phone until you reach your destination just use the internet for everything else. One you reach port I have At&T coverage for the most part was excellent in town and once you leave to go on an excursion you may not have any service until you get back close to the port. I can’t say enough about our trip it was incredible to see Alaska a once in a lifetime trip.

What an Awesome Trip !!!!!!

November

Pros: Efficiency of Staff, Cleanliness of Ship and its decor, Activities were over the top, Excursions given by ship were great. The tour guides were very knowledgable. The food was outstanding in all dining areas. The atmosphere on the ship was electric which is saying a lot.

Cons: I wish I had more days for my cruise.

Out of all the cruises I have been on I must say that Ruby Princess out shined the other cruise. The level of service was exceptional. All the employees were attentive even if you were not asking a question about their area. I was very impressed with the shows given in the Princess Theater. There was never a dull moment. My Senior Travel group is taking the same trip in March 2018. I'm going to try real hard to be on it because it will be during the week of my birthday. My roommate was every impress with the attention she got for her birthday on this cruise. She stated you made her feel special.

Wonderful cruise!!

July

Pros: customer service and food

Cons: too much jewelry-pushing

Recommended: Yes

Wonderful trip! Great food! Excellent service from all wait staff and our room attendant. The naturalist, Michael Modolewski (sp?) was excellent! He is very knowledgeable, and such a such a great speaker. He is a wonderful addition to the cruise. Please make it more clear to first time cruisers where you can eat without an additional charge. That is not clear once you board the ship, and not clear in the Princess Patter. Food gifts: please provide storage containers or smaller plates with covers. My sister and her husband couldn't eat it all upon arrival, and there was no way to store the food - the plate and cover didn't fit in the small room frig. Do you have to push all that jewelry and leave all those cards in the room mailbox regarding jewelry? What a waste of paper, and I didn't take the cruise to be bombarded with jewelry ads. It became annoying. I attended the shopping seminar for Alaska made things and salmon, not jewelry. I hope you recycle all that paper! Otherwise, this was a wonderful cruise, and we're very happy with Princess. Great weather helped, too!

Great trip!

June

Pros: Cleanliness of ship, friendly staff, fun excursions

Cons: quality of ship entertainment, too much emphasis on sales.

Recommended: Yes

I took my two grandkids ( ages 16 and 17) on an Alaska cruise to celebrate graduation and birthdays. We all shared an interior room which proved to be more than sufficient for the three of us. The beds were very comfortable and our steward very friendly. My grandaughter was especially delighted with the daily "Princess Patter ' newsletter ad quickly learned how to navigate throughout the ship. We lucked into excellent weather which made our shore excursions even more enjoyable. All staff were extremely friendly, particularly those in the ships restaurants. The food was good both in the buffet and in the dining rooms and given that I was traveling with two teens, the pizza/ice cream bar proved very popular. The disappointing parts were the lack of entertainment options that interested a younger crowd- bingo and art auctions aren't exactly their cup of tea. While there was a youth room, their visit to the room didn't interest them. They loved all shore excursions. Would have loved to have more time in Victoria, B.C. which is a beautiful city but the 4 hours available in the evening was not enough to truly enjoy it.There is quite a bit of 'sales pitch" while on board, particularly related to purchasing jewelry at ports of call which was a turnoff. Favorite activity of the teens was going whale watching, my favorite day by far was the day on the ship in Glacier Bay- stunning!

We had a wonderful wait staff in Dining room and I can't think of a single thing that I was not happy with that Princess could have any control over. They were wonderful and we will travel with them again,

My experience on the Ruby Princess

April

Pros: Staff was extremely courteous and professional. Our every need was met! The activities were well organized and enjoyable. The shows were enjoyable and yet tasteful.

Cons: The only thing I feel should be done is clean/replace the carpet in our cabin. It appeared old and soiled, although the steward vacuumed it regularly.

Recommended: Yes

On the most part, the food was enjoyable. But, I felt the breakfast pastries were stale and limited. I was hoping to have a fresh big cinnamon bun or an apple fritter.

Pros: Did not feel crowded; good entertainment.

Cons: Dining options were fair.

The best food was the optional pay for restaurants. The disembarkation was handled in the most excellent manor. We've never gotten on or off a ship so smoothly.

Our Four Back to Back Cruises!

February

Pros: Ship is in great condition, crew provided exceptional level of service.

Cons: AnyTime Dining had long delays in getting seated

Recommended: Yes

We believe the Any Time Dining issue was due to the new Club Class that Princess is trying out on the Ruby. Unfortunately due to the fact they blocked off a large number of tables in the dining room for the suite and mini-suite passengers the rest of us had long wait lines into dinner. There were not that many suite guests using the Club Class option for dinner and we could see many empty tables while the rest of us had to wait to get seated.........it is not working!

November

Pros: Beautiful locations to visit

Cons: Several elderly people on ship

The Ruby Princess is one of the most beautiful ships I've ever sailed on. The staff was great and the locations we visited in Mexico were all beautiful as well. I only wish there were more dairy alternatives available (ie, almond milk, coconut milk, coffee creamer substitute, etc).

All in all, a very nice cruise with plenty of onboard activity options. Missed the honey-roasted peanuts in Crooners lounge. Didn't care for the Soul Rockers group although other live entertainment was good. Enjoyed the culinary demonstration very much--was informative and very entertaining.

Alaska Inland Passage

July

Pros: Food/beverage service excellent

Cons: The excursion to the Butchart Gardens was very unorganized.

Recommended: Yes

Two groups (just the garden tour and the butterfly/garden tour met in the same area to disembark, but there was only one cruise representative coordinating both groups. There were no signs directing each group to a certain section of the room. The representative was not customer service oriented at all! She was a little abrasive and curt when questioned. She also indicated that she could only talk so loud, and therefore, many were having trouble hearing her directions. Ultimately, there should have been more employees to coordinate such a large group of people. Then, when we left the ship, there was NO signage indicating where we were supposed to congregate. After questioning someone with another tour, we were directed to the line of buses, which were also not very clearly marked. I also felt that the excursion was very rushed, especially at the gardens. I had heard about the beauty of the gardens, but we had very little daylight in which to enjoy them.

Seven day inside passage cruise with three shore excursions

July

Pros: Always something to do on the ship

Cons: getting from the ship to the pier for an excursion

Recommended: Yes

The food and service at the "Crab Shack" on the ship was terrible and we paid two cover charges of $ 29 for that dinner which was too salty and the waiter tried to rush us.. There was no menu. The food and service at the Crown Grill on the ship was excellent and we ate dinner there twice The food and service at Michelangelo restaurant on the ship was excellent and we ate dinner there three times with the menu changing each time Unhappily, there was nobody to help me get from the end of the ship ramp to the pier at any of the three ports. In Ketchican we had to get off the ship at low tide and the ship ramp went down a steep slope(I was wheeled down that ramp) . However, the pier ramp went up a step slope and I had no help getting up that ramp. It was a very difficult struggle, but I made it to the pier.so that I could take the first excursion.

Our 15 day Hawaiian Vacation

April

Pros: Ship beautiful and spotless, beds very comfortable, excellent food and service and entertainment was very good.

Cons: tour costs high, dvd and photos too high priced.

Recommended: Yes

We really enjoyed the cruise. If we had it to do over again we probably would have flown and spend more time on the islands. We had never been to Hawaii so 4 days was a little short to see the islands. Would have liked to go to a luau but it would have costs $100 each. The cruise ended up costing about double the base price which was $1300 each. With insurance, gratuities, port tax, and tours we ended up spending $5000. This will be our last cruise as we can't afford anymore.

Ruby Princess 4 day cruise

March

Pros: services and facilites were excellent, as we expect on Princess

Cons: This particular cruise seemed to attract a larger number of families with young children that might be disturbing to some older passengers...also poor info on transfer from ship to airport as detailed in comments below.

Recommended: Yes

Although Princess had advised you they could not guarantee to get us there for a noon flight, we contacted Passenger Services as you advised, and they placed us with a 8:30 am disembarkation group, which got us to LAX in plenty of time. I cannot understand Princess' mis-information that caused us to get a refund from the previously paid transfer reservation, and leave it up to us to make our own arrangements! There were hundreds of people leaving the ship even earlier than we did. I'm very disappointed that Princess mislead us and think that was a regretful disservice to us that caused me unnecessary anxiety as to how we were going to manage for ourselves!

Cons: In order activities and entertainment aimed at over 60 crowd

Our 3 generational family of 9 totally enjoyed this cruise. We think Princess has the best food compared to the other 5 cruise lines we have used. Their seafood, steaks, and desserts were outstanding. Anything chocolate is simply delicious. The ship is large and never seemed crowded. There are many pools and hot tubs. Pros: Great ship and crew. Food and entertainment was outstanding.

Cons: On disembarkation our luggage got mixed into another groups bags and it took us a long time to find them.

Don't over schedule your shore excursions, spend some time walking around the towns and visiting with the locals. The jewelry promotions were a little annoying but not bad. Great Ship!

April

Pros: Excellent food, good service, reasonable prices, fun ports of call

Cons: Ship is getting a little old and it is beginning to show

Recommended: Yes

Puerto Vallarta was fun - Dona Estancia Tequila Factory especially; Cabo San Lucas was fun - snorkeling in Santa Maria Bay from a yacht; the Ruby Princess was lovely, though beginning to show her age. We heard that Ruby Princess had the best food in the fleet, and we agreed completely! The cliff divers in Mazatlan were amazing, the church was pretty, but our buffet lunch at some resort hotel was terrible. We were crowded in to a room too small (ten chairs at each table for eight), had to wait in line for 20 minutes to get our mediocre lunch with bitter margaritas. The folkloric show was decent, but definitely not worth the $139 price tag for the day. Overall the ship's itinerary was a lot of fun. You do have to enjoy days at sea since they are four out of the seven days, but Princess Champagne Breakfast on the Balcony and their informative wine tastings, good entertainment options, plus the Lotus spa make those sea days fly by! Definitely recommend this cruise.

Inside Cabin More Roomie than Most

April

Pros: Cabin floor plan, modernized casino

Cons: No longer have the Solarium so don't have the enclosed pool area. It gets cold out in the middle of the Pacific and we were therefore unable to comfortabely use the pools or hot tubs. Also, the theater is relatively small so it was difficult to find a seat.

Recommended: Yes

By placing the beds against the far wall facing the door and running the desk and closet parallel to the foot of the beds, you have a lot more room to move around. Another pro is that you can set up an electronic account in the casino so you don't ever need to carry cash--everything is charged to your room.

September

Pros: Ports, Excursions, Staff pleasantness, Mostly good food

Cons: see notes

Recommended: Yes

Overall a great experience. Dining room anytime dining was cancelled one evening without telling us while we waited. Several times the silverware and plates were dirty. The stateroom bedding and carpeting was tired looking as compared to our cruise on the Ruby in 2011. Our stateroom steward, Genghis, was very accommodating, organized and kind. Michelangelo Dining room staff not nearly as happy and fun as with previous cruises. Bedroom chocolates were like paraffin. Excursion and tender staff were excellent and organized. Gathering suitcases from port upon disembarkation was chaotic; people going in and out the same direction. This was dangerous for some to possibly fall over those pulling carry-on luggage. The overall food was good, but not as good as with previous Princess cruises. The overall trip was good, but the service and food were somewhat below our previous Princess cruises.

Princess Ruby Review

May

Pros: The ship was clean.

Cons: See review.

Recommended: No

The Ruby Princess was a nice ship and clean, however, it was not up to par as far as the other Princess ships we have traveled on. It seemed that the ship was so large that no one knew what was happening, and there seemed to be no concern. The head waiter in the dining room was not too concerned when we asked for a certain waiter on several occasions. We were not put with that waiter at all. Wonder if it was because there were three women and a man traveling together and we were being discriminated upon? My friend fell on one of the side excursions, and it was a major ordeal to get proper paper work completed and doctor paper work completed as she was not able to continue on another scheduled trip to Switzerland with us on Insight. As I said, there was no concern. This was my friend's first adventure on Princess, and needless to say, she was not impressed. Also, the side excursions were too rushed and there was no time for shopping in the local shops. It was always "be back to the bus in 10 minutes." The entertainment on the ship was not up to par either. We were very disappointed almost every night we went to the Princess Theater. There were many small things that led us to believe that the ship was not up to Princess standards. Princess can do better.

Cons: Driving car to port, leaving from pier 2 and arriving at pier 19. On board wi-fi bad.

Recommended: No

it is important to find out if the cruise in port days are in an existing town or just a man made group of tourist shops. I know when previously visiting St Maarten and St Thomas the port stops were better. I guess as we get older the stops with more strenuous activities become less interesting. Entertainment was fair. best was a singer at Crooners lounge, Tommy McPhee. Food on Princess in dining room becomes more average as time goes on.

Great First Cruise!

April

Pros: Friendly staff, lots to do, clean & spacious rooms (we had a mini suite), comfortable bed.

Cons: The food was so-so. Some good, some not.

Recommended: Yes

This was our first cruise and it was a wonderful experience! The staff was so friendly and accommodating. We took our two teenage sons and they had plenty of activities to keep them busy. The excursions were wonderful as well.

Cruise of March 15-20 2014

Overall everything was good and the staff were very attentive. There were four of us who dined together in the dining room late evenings at table 31 and the staff were so attentive, James and the young lady I have forgotten her name, Helena? We could not have desired a better service, they were outstanding. Please give them our regards and tell them how much we miss them, now we have to plan our own meals. I wish them well and hope they are recognized as employee of the month

Ship and Itineary

March

Pros: Great ship and wonderful stopovers

Cons: Cruise director

Recommended: No

The cruise was great. We loved Princess Cays and Grand Turk. We also visited Atlantis on Paradise Island on our stopover in Nassau. What a place! The ship was really nice. Aside from having a wonderful time, the only thing that we didn't like was that the cruise director never said what was going on. We did have the Princess Patter, but on past cruises the cruise director kept everyone informed as to what was going on at different times of the day. We had to carry the Patter so we would keep checking on things to do. Aside from this minor thing we really enjoyed everything else on the ship and stopovers.
