An experience on a Silversea Expedition Cruise

August

Pros: Service, food, cabin/suite, tours, updated information, lectures

Cons: Laundry facility

Recommended: No

Our Silversea expedition cruise to Iceland was delayed for two days due to rough seas in the North Atlantic. The crew of Silversea did a fine job keeping us informed during the delay and took great care of us onboard as well as offering several interesting tours of Dublin while we waited. Once we embarked the seas were still a bit rough, but they eventually smoothed out, and the rest of the journey was on pleasant, calm water. The expedition cruise experience was fabulous. The purpose of the cruise was to explore and learn about Iceland, and in that regard Silversea delivered. We visited several small, remote villages on the coast and learned what life is and was like at the top of the world as well as the interesting history of the country. Each village brought a new and different perspective--we were offered a variety of tours at each stop---everything from touring ancient ruins to whale watching and hiking the wilderness. There was an offering for every taste and interest. Another area where Silversea delivered was their excellent food and service onboard. The subtle personal touches offered by each crew member from the captain to the waitstaff and cabin butler were unparalleled. For instance, one day I returned to my cabin after a long day of touring to find a small bowl of potato chips waiting for us in my cabin! The cabin itself was spacious, comfortable, and well appointed. There was adequate room for our belongings and we could easily separate the sleeping area from a pleasant sitting space by pulling a divider curtain. We departed Iceland on calm seas and enjoyed a couple interesting stops in the Orkney Islands and Isle of Iona in Scotland and great day in Belfast with a great tour guide. As this was an expedition cruise and a smaller ship, we didn't expect there would be entertainment but were surprised the lectures, game time and evening musicians in the various lounges.

Fantastic cruise line and ship

November

Pros: Great food, wonderful crew, amazing parts of call

Cons: Older ship that could use some major system updates such as air-conditioning or Internet

Recommended: No

Overall, an absolutely fabulous cruise. The crew truly care to do an amazing job and the food is of the highest level. The adventures could be a little more strenuous as it is geared toward a more mild expedition. Where is many people on board would like it to be a bit more adventurous. The ship is in great condition as it was just in dry dock, but it does show its age in some ways, such as not having a modern climate control system, and a lot of noise and creeks Overall, a perfect size small vessel to navigate some of them more off the beaten path places in the world

10 days to Antarctica Expedition Cruise!

February

Pros: The BEST way to experience Luxury Expedition Cruising in Antarctica!

Cons: Cold! About 32F degrees and it was summer there! Need to stay on back to back cruise, as the time speed by!

Recommended: No

A true 6 star luxury Expedition Cruise to a stunning grey, black and white color destination, with abundant wildlife of penguins, whales, seals, birds, along with snow capped mountains, moving glaciers, ice floes and ice formations abound! The stunning blue of the exposure of the million year "old" ice was in stark contrast but absolutely exquisite! Silversea offers 2 ways to reserve your cruise. Door to Door, which is all inclusive starting from your home, with private executive style airport transfers, airfare, pre and post night hotel stays, prepaid gratuities, wifi and premium beverages. They provide a Butler on every category! who cater to your every wish! You can also opt for the port to port option, if wanted, to do your own air, hotel and transfers - especially if you want to extend your travel to other area destinations. This was MY personal visit to the World's 7th Continent and one of the most once in a lifetime true expedition experiences! WoW! It won't be my last! The Expedition Crew with their specialist lectures and guided excursions were Outstanding!! These are experts in their perspective fields and they ONLY want you to experience "everything" to see and do in Antarctica with safety and comfort!! The staff onboard are great and enhance your cruise and destination experience and I can highy recommend Silversea! The food was delicious and they have 4 restaurant options, besides 24 hour room service! It is a real experience to travel the Drake Passage from South America to Antarctica. You can either have the Drake "lake" (calm) or the Drake "shake" (wavy) They also have an option to fly over the Drake Passage and cruise Antarctica but the majority of passengers traveled roundtrip by ship. The weather was cold! You can only visit during their "summer months" with temps around 32 degrees F I guess I'm a true Florida gal!  Glad they provided warm weather clothing and accessories!  We MUST protect our fragile world and help save our planet with responsible travel!  By Air, Land, Sea and Space!

Incredible Expedition Experience in Arctic

August

Pros: Food was some of the best I've ever had at sea, lectures from expedition guides were excellent quality and service from all the staff onboard was so professional but also from the heart

Cons: Evening entertainment was just about non-existent - could add some more choices here

Recommended: No

Not only did we experience 6 star luxury service throughout our cruise by our butler, cabin steward and other onboard staff, but also the expedition team went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. Food and dining service was second to none. And we got to do so many activities as well as learn about this amazing destination!

California to Costa Rica - a Silversea Expedition

October

Pros: Comfortable luxury ship, great dining and a happy staff providing good service.

Cons:

Recommended: No

As an avid Expedition, Nature, and Safari lover, I was not sure what to expect on Silversea Expedition, but I did very much enjoy it. On this itinerary we did not have the full Expedition experience, no zodiac landings or kayaking from the ship, but this was because the countries we were in did not allow it, but instead we had a selection of locally guided tours in each port, and the Naturalists from the ship came along on each departure. On my trip, there were a number of Silversea repeat guests, and some more Expedition travelers, and both seemed to enjoy themselves. For me, the lectures, and watching for wildlife with the Naturalists were the best feature, but sailing on a luxury all suite vessel with a balcony and a butler was certainly enjoyable as well! Silversea puts it together well and included both a pre and a post night hotel.

Great trip, great staff, great boat, great food!

January

Pros: Small ship, small number of guests, great staff

Cons: Slightly dated design, rough seas, tenders to ports were a negative

Recommended: Yes

An excellent trip overall with a great staff and even better food. We loved the small ship atmosphere and the very quiet spaces. The ship never felt crowded and we loved the number and variety of public rooms. The tenders into ports was a bit of a turn off as I found the tenders to be crowded, hot and stuffy and not a great overall experience. The shore excursions were also a hit or miss. I don't enjoy riding in small vans with multiple people, et al. One of our shore excursions was cancelled and we were not notified until we were onboard the ship. The quality of food was excellent - a huge variety and they willingness of the staff to meet any need was very nice. Excellent wine list if you didn't like the included wines and i thought the pricing for some of the rare/high-end thing was very fair, if not inexpensive. The different restaurants and changing menu's were also a nice surprise. I don't think I ate the same thing twice in 10 days, except the large salads I made for lunch! The ship is being updated soon we're told and it is in need of a refresh. Everything was very clean but had the slight feel of a the early 90's to me. Our room was comfortable and had tons of storage space. The butler that attended to us was beyond accommodating and very helpful. The entertainment on board was very good and varied from lectures to broadway style reviews. We enjoyed the energy of the young performers. Overall it was an excellent trip and would do it again.

Christmas cruise

December

Pros: Great service, food and amenities. Plenty of things to do, and plenty of places to relax. Amazing horseback trail ride and beach swim in Antigua.

Cons: Our Silver Suite was roomy, but tired. Needed updating.

Recommended: Yes

This was a great cruise for us since we live in FL and did not have to fly to the port city. We enjoy the days at sea, and this cruise included 4 . Lovely decorations throughout the ship for the holiday. The Boutique staff were friendly and funny, and the selection was great. Our Butler and all the service staff made us feel right at home.

Unforgettable Memories

October

Pros: Excellent staff, food, & Lectures by Nicki.

Cons: We couldn’t visit 2 ports I was looking forward to due to weather: Isles des Madelines & Boston Harbor.

Recommended: Yes

Would take the same cruise again, perhaps a bit earlier in the season to prevent such severe weather, esp. ocean waves. No person to blame. A “Bomb Cyclone” in Boston is surely an unpredictable weather oddity. NYC was sunny & beautiful the following two days. History/Geography Lectures were outstanding!

Good Experience

April

Pros: Small ship, attentive staff, excellent food and entertainment

Cons: No coffee bar, cabins need refurbishing, no ice cream bar, specialty restaurant charged additional $60 pp.

Recommended: No

We liked the small ship. Never waited in line for anything. No reservations needed in the main restaurant, so you could dine whenever. Lunches at La Terrazza were buffet style and had many choices and food was delicious. There were only 6 entertainers, but they were all extremely talented and versatile. We did miss being able to get coffee/snacks without calling room service. Daily trivia games were fun and loved that there were Bridge professionals on board and duplicate bridge on sea days. Staff was very attentive, but never got to know anyone well except German, who was great. Many other guests had been on multiple Silver Seas cruises and kept coming back which is a testament to the company.

Pros: Pros fantastic service, especially by the butlers.: The size of the ship, the dining options and Cons: The television satellite went

Cons: Cons: The television satellite went out for 4 days and there was some grumbling .

Recommended: No

Perfect weather and interesting ports added up to a wonderful trip. The staff was great and the food in all of the dining options was quite good. The chef did several cooking trips and demonstrations and everyone loved them. The demonstrations were standing room only. He shopped locally and people appreciated the high quality of the fruits especially.

Delightful journey

March

Pros: very attentive staff and good food

Cons:

Recommended: Yes

We took a late March 10-day trip in the Caribbean including the week before Easter (spring break for many schools). We had a great diversity of fellow passengers and the interactions between the passengers was far better than we have ever experienced before. Perhaps the good staff attitude helped set the tone. In any event, we seemed to be always chatting with new friends, whether on our small-group shore excursions, or at coctails, or at meals.

Silver Wind September 2015

September

Pros: Every suite has a butler who can attend to your every need. Every one is very service oriented.

Cons: The deep soaker tub can be difficult for some guests to climb in and out of for their shower.

Recommended: No

This was a very port intensive itinerary with only one day at sea out of the 10 total days. The weather was gorgeous and calm seas let us enjoy everything these ports had to offer. Because most people were off the ship during the days, there was little time to spend on board. Because of the active itinerary, there were also not a lot of onboard activities scheduled. However, with this level of sophisticated traveler, most people want to do their own thing anyway. Surprisingly, even Trivia, which is usually very heavily attended, was not on this sailing.
The ship does a good job with offering a free shuttle bus to the main downtown area in each port.  Due to high seas, we had to dock in Naples overnight instead of going to Sorrento and Amalfi where we were scheduled to tender, but the ship made arrangements so all the shore excursions could still be accommodated.
Silversea is an excellent ultra-luxury cruise line for the upscale traveler

SilverWInd

September

Pros: the service, the food, the pool deck

Cons: ship was a bit worn

Recommended: Yes

Our butler was attentive, courteous, and prompt. I wish I could have taken him home. The entire staff on this ship was outstanding. They seemed to know what you wanted before you did. Food was excellent in the dining room and La Terrazza. We felt the service in La Champagne was not up to the standards of the rest of the ship. The evening entertainment was limited, but that may be due to the small size of this ship. The SilverWind was a bit tired and needed some refurbishing. However, that in no way detracted from our experience on board. We are looking forward to our next SilverSeas experience in 3 months.

Barcelona to Rome

August

Pros: food and service

Cons: needs to be updated more.

Recommended: No

The best part about the Silver Wind is the food and service. The ship is all suites although the suites are small and the bathrooms are dated with dark marble tubs. Alot of the guests onboard sail with SilverSea regularly and felt right at home. The employees are very professional, well trained and hospitable. The food was the best I have ever had on a cruise ship with five dining choices….main dining room (open seating), The Patio Grill where you cook on hot stones yourself, La Terazza (Italian where the menu changes every three days), Le Champagne- a relais and Chateaux fine dining experience with a $40 surcharge, and inroom dining. We experienced all the restaurants and all were wonderful. Before the cruise, you can make reservations in the dining venues ahead of time, but you can also do it onboard. The main dining room is open seating.  The SilverSea singers all had good voices but would have loved for them to sing more popular songs that the whole audience would enjoy.  At night, most people go to sleep.  There is a piano player who can sing in the Panorama each evening and a four piece orchestra in main bar that turns into a disco at 11:00pm although all of it is on the tame side.  No music out by the pool but that is the policy of the ship.  There were a few very young kids on board but no activities for them so it is not encouraged.  We met very interesting people and overall enjoyed the cruise.

Close to Perfect

August

Pros: We have the best travel planner! She leaves nothing to chance, anticipating our personal needs and expectations as she plans trips for us at least annually. This trip ended in our 45th day as Silversea travelers - so we have both experience and loyalty with/to them. Bar and butler service the best! Accommodations comfortable and roomy. Dining options flexible for a small ship.

Cons: The ship takes some liberties in moving pre-booked reservations/appointments for La Terrazza and the spa. My ship evaluation clearly communicated our disappointment in this situation. Food is predictable and one must not be timid about asking for better wines than those automatically poured. Difficult to figure out how to operate laundry appliances - need at least some instruction.

Recommended: No

We will sail Silversea again but likely on one of the larger ships.

Our 4th cruise

June

Pros: Excellent service and food and wine

Cons: More shore excursion choices especially for evening events off ship, like a concert

Recommended: No

Compared to previous cruises, this one seemed less personal and the cruise director, while friendly, made no effort to invite us to dinner. There was one employee in the bar and restaurant who knew us by name by day 2 and remembered what we liked! Not enough staff in the casino and the attendants, while skilled, were more interested in talking about my clothes and other personal things. Also it would have been a great touch to have a planned evening event while docked as we experienced in Athens-a candlelight concert and champagne.!! This is the first time there were young children on the ship and they made a lot of noise at meal times.
