First, you will visit the House of Virgin Mary, where the Virgin is said to have lived the last years of her life. The building was rediscovered in the late 19 th Century by Lazartis from Smyrna based on the vision of a German nun. The site is officially declared a shrine of the Roman Catholic Church and visited by Pope Paul VI in 1967, Pope John Paul II in 1979, and Pope Benedict XVI in 2007.
Next, you will visit Ephesus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous throughout the ancient world for its Temple of Artemis. You will first visit the Odeon Theatre where state affairs used to be held. Then, view the Hadrian Temple, it was dedicated in 118 AD to Hadrian, Artemis, and the people of Ephesus but greatly reconstructed in the 4 th Century. This impressive Corinthian style temple has beautiful reliefs on the porch. According to the belief of the Ephesians, the Medusa head on the porch would protect the city from its enemies.
The Terrace Houses (Villas) on Curetes street belonged to the rich people of Ephesus. Many of them were three-storied and had peristyles surrounded by rooms without windows but included frescoes and mosaics of mythological scenes. Some of the frescoes were scenes from the comedies of Menander and the tragedies of Euripides. They were luxuriously furnished private houses with fountains and central heating. Between the street and houses was a portico with a mosaic floor behind which were shops.
The Celsus Library is a Roman mausoleum and library built in the early 2 nd Century AD. The Library of Celsus was commissioned by the Julius as a mausoleum for his father, Roman governor of the Asian Provinces. It is one of the most beautifully reconstructed buildings in Ephesus, it has become an icon of the ancient city.
The Great Theatre dates to the Hellenistic period. It is one of the most impressive buildings in Ephesus, which has a capacity of 25,000 seats. The theatre was used for concerts, plays and religious, political, and philosophical discussions and for gladiator and animal fights. Marble Road runs between the Library of Celsus and the theater and is a part of the sacred walkway.
Lunch suggested at a local restaurant.
After your lunch, you will visit the Ephesus Museum. Many of the artifacts displayed here were found in Ephesus and other ancient sites in the region. Cesme Port - Glories of Ephesus (Full Day)
Arrive in Cesme, you will meet your professional guide, holding a name sign outside of the terminal building at the port and drive to Ephesus approximately 1 ½ hours for your full- day tour in Ephesus.
First, you will visit the House of Virgin Mary, where the Virgin is said to have lived the last years of her life. The building was rediscovered in the late 19th century by Lazartis from Smyrna based on the vision of a German nun. The site is officially declared a shrine of the Roman Catholic Church and visited by Pope Paul VI in 1967, Pope John Paul II in 1979 and Pope Benedict XVI in 2007.
Then, you will drive to Ephesus, enter and view the Odeon Theatre, where state affairs and concerts were held. Walk down the marble walkway and visit the Hadrian Temple. It was dedicated in 118 AD to Hadrian, Artemis, and the people of Ephesus but greatly reconstructed in the 4th century. This impressive Corinthian style temple has beautiful reliefs on the porch. According to the belief of Ephesians, the Medusa head on the porch, would protect the city from its enemies.
A special visit will be made to the spectacular Terrace Houses (Villas) located on top of the hill within the Ephesus. They have a fantastic view of the entire city of Ephesus. They were inhabited by wealthy Ephesians, and are finely decorated with incredible examples of mosaics and frescos. The Terrace Houses were brought to light in excavations carried out since the 1980s by a team of Austrian archeologists. Along with those in Pompeii, they constitute some of the most vivid examples of Roman domestic architecture to survive to the present.
Next, you will proceed to the Celsus Library, The library is the best preserved structure of its kind. The inscription on the side of the building’s front staircase says that the library was build by Julius, in his father’s honor, after his death. His father, Celsus was the Roman governor of Asia Minor early in the 2nd century AD. His tomb is in the library as well.
Next, visit the Great Theatre, dating back to the Hellenistic period. In the 1st century AD it was successfully reconstructed and expanded by the Romans until it reached the seating capacity of 25,000. This is also the place where it is believed that St.Paul preached. The surrounding islands are the remains of the sides of the crater, and the sea has filled in the gaps, forming a beautiful bay. Sunsets on the island are particularly striking; all the restaurants and bars in Fira face west over the sunken volcano and the Aegean Sea.

Guests will enjoy a pre-arranged sightseeing itinerary with a Private Car and Guide to explore the following destination highlights.
Leaving the port, begin your journey driving by the coastal area of Agios Nikolaos city. This route covers an interesting part of the northeastern axis of the island. Passing through the very well-known resort area of Elounda, your first stop is a small fishing village called Plaka. From the small port of the village, you will board a boat and, in a few minutes, reach the historic small island of Spinalonga.
Spinalonga is an arid and barren rocky islet with an area of 8.5 hectares lying at the mouth of the natural port of Elounda. Due to its strategic location, it was fortified and served a variety of roles and purposes over the centuries. In antiquity, the islet was walled to protect the ancient city of Olous. In 1903, the Cretan State established a leper colony on the island. After the leper colony closed in 1957, the islet remained desolate and uninhabited. Spinalongas use as a place of confinement for lepers, who experienced the reality of death in isolation and desertion, had stigmatized it.
Upon return from Spinalonga Island, continue your tour to the island’s quieter and authentic hinterland. Through the nearby mountainous area, you will find the village of Fourni. Fourni village is in the homonymous fertile plain (polje) at an altitude of 320m. Visitors often come across houses of Venetian architecture, proof of the area’s long history. The area has dozens of chapels and Monasteries, most of them from the 16 th and 17 th Centuries. Enjoy a stroll in the village or a treat in a typical local café (kafenion). As you continue further inland, you will drive through the agricultural small town of Neapoli, reaching the main national road, and returning to Agios Nikolaos Port.

Half Day Wadi Rum Tour
Drive from Aqaba Port to Wadi Rum. The drive takes about two (2) hours roundtrip.
Otherwise known as Valley of the Moon, Wadi Rum is the largest - and most magnificent - of Jordan's desert landscapes and has been virtually untouched by humans. A maze of monolithic rock formations rises from the desert floor to heights of 1,750 meters (5,740 feet), creating a natural challenge for serious mountaineers.
However, Wadi Rum may be best known for its connection with British officer T. E. Lawrence, who passed through several times during the Arab Revolt of 1917–18. In the 1980s, one of the rock formations in Wadi Rum was named "The Seven Pillars of Wisdom" after Lawrence's book penned in the aftermath of the war, although the 'Seven Pillars' referred to in the book have no connection with Rum.
Enjoy a 1-hour desert ride on board a 4x4 Bedouin truck. End the ride near a Bedouin tent where you will enjoy a cup of tea before your drive back to Aqaba Port.
Please Note: This excursion is conducted on board a basic, but comfortable, vehicle, which is operated by a local charity foundation. All money generated through these tours helps support the livelihood of the local Bedouins.
