After breakfast Meet your English speaking driver for the scenic ride to Carmelo. Start with a visit to Calera de Las Huerfanas, Jesuit ruins from the 1700's, with a history linked to wine production. We'll proceed to visit two wineries, just about 80 minutes away from Colonia. Our first stop will be Bodegas Cordano, a small family-run winery which is led by Ana Paula Cordano and her family. After a warm reception, we will tour the vineyards and enjoy a tasting of the Cordano wines in the special atmosphere of the Almacen de La Capilla. We then continue to El Legado Winery, a boutique family owned winery located in the Carmelo area. The locally produced Tannat, made from a red grape originating in southwestern France, is Uruguay's signature wine, and a delight to taste. After a full day of touring, we arrive at the Finca Narbona Lodge, a 4 star Relais & Chateaux property located along the shores of the Ro de la Plata (the river frontier dividing Argentina and Uruguay). This charming property is a cellar, farm, restaurant and lodge all in one, and is recognized as one of the most famous wineries in Uruguay. The lodge offers 5 spacious rooms overlooking the vineyards, guaranteeing a serene and romantic atmosphere. After checking in, relax before dinner on your own this evening. The renowned Restaurant Narbona offers an excellent menu concentrating on Uruguayan specialties, where guests can choose to sit by the open fire, have a drink at the bar or dine outside by candlelight.
